The 35W xenon H1 bulb actually produces less heat than a 55W H1 halogen, because it converts a greater share of the energy into light rather than infrared. However, the ballast generates additional heat and must be installed in a ventilated place. In 55W or 100W versions, the heat produced is comparable to, or even higher than, that of a halogen, which can damage plastic optics.
