The 5050 Concours Paste Wax by Chemical Guys is a paste wax intended for maintained bodywork, collector vehicles, and cars shown at exhibitions. It is based on twice-refined Brazilian carnauba, double A grade, and aims for a warm and deep finish on the paint.
A twice-refined Brazilian carnauba
The double refining removes impurities from the raw wax and improves the clarity of the film laid down on the clear coat. The blend uses only natural carnauba, which explains the warm and slightly wet finish typical of high-end paste waxes.
What the wax brings to the bodywork

Compatible with modern clear coats
The V2 version has been reformulated to work with recent clear coats, including water-based finishes and ceramic clear coats. It applies equally well on new paint as on older paint, previously corrected.
Limited-batch production
Each tin is hand-poured in small batches, which allows rigorous quality control. The wax is delivered in a traditional metal tin, accompanied by two applicators, with a capacity of 226 g.
When to use it
The 5050 Concours Paste Wax is used as a last step, after washing, decontamination, and any correction. To prepare the surface, a medium-grade clay bar removes embedded contaminants, and a gloss-enhancing glaze can be applied just before the wax on dark shades.
Instructions for use of 5050 Concours Paste Wax Chemical Guys
The 5050 Concours Paste Wax is applied by hand, on a clean, dry bodywork at room temperature. Working in the shade and panel by panel gives the most consistent result.
Prepare the bodywork
- Wash the vehicle with a neutral shampoo, for example the Citrus Wash and Gloss shampoo.
- Dry the entire bodywork with a drying microfiber.
- Decontaminate the paint with a clay bar if it remains rough to the touch.
- Correct defects with polish if necessary: a wax does not make scratches disappear.
Apply the wax
- Open the metal tin using a key or a coin.
- Lightly load the supplied applicator by passing it over the surface of the paste.
- Spread a thin, even coat on one panel at a time.
- Let the wax set for about 20 minutes.
- Remove the residue with a clean microfiber, turning the side regularly.
Precautions
- Do not apply in direct sunlight or on hot metal.
- Protect unpainted plastics and seals: a paste wax leaves a light haze on them.
- Close the tin carefully after each use to preserve the paste.
- Store away from heat and frost.
