Blue Chemical Guys microfiber applicator: a thin and even coat

The blue Chemical Guys microfiber applicator is a rectangular pad made of a premium microfiber mounted on a foam core. It is used to apply by hand a wax, a sealant, a glaze, or a dressing in a thin, even layer, without over-applying the product or marking the treated surface. It is the basic tool for anyone who applies their protection by hand, from the individual protecting their car to the detailing professional.

A premium microfiber on a foam core

The working face is made of premium microfiber: it holds the product and releases it gradually upon contact with the surface. The soft foam core distributes hand pressure across the entire surface of the pad, which prevents overloaded areas and streaks in still-fresh wax.

Stitching designed for paint

The edges of the pad are sewn with hidden stitching. The seams therefore do not come into contact with the clear coat during application, which significantly reduces the risk of micro-scratches on painted surfaces.

Compatible with most surfaces

Chemical Guys lists the following surfaces for this applicator:

  • Paint, clear coat, and glass
  • Plastics, rubber, and vinyl
  • Leather and faux leather
  • Fabric
  • Metal, aluminum, and stainless steel

Less product wasted

A microfiber applicator lays down a significantly smaller amount of product than a sponge or a folded cloth. Over a complete bodywork treatment, this limits wax or sealant consumption and reduces the excess to remove during buffing.

A color code to avoid mixing

These applicators come in several colors. Assigning a color to each product family prevents transferring a greasy dressing onto freshly waxed bodywork. The same format is available in yellow, in black and in brown.

Washable and reusable

The microfiber is machine-washable. An applicator washed and dried after each session can be reused on many jobs, unlike simple foam pads, which quickly deform and tear.

Instructions for use of the blue microfiber applicator Chemical Guys

The applicator is held in the palm of the hand, microfiber side flat against the surface. The motion always stays the same: little product, light pressure, and straight passes that overlap. Here is the procedure depending on the product applied.

Apply a wax or a sealant

  1. Wash and completely dry the bodywork before any application.
  2. Place three to six dots of product on the microfiber side of the pad.
  3. Work panel by panel, in straight lines that slightly overlap.
  4. Let the product set according to the instructions for the wax used.
  5. Remove the excess with a clean microfiber, turning it regularly.

Apply a glaze before protection

  1. Prepare clean, decontaminated paint.
  2. Load the pad with a few dots of glaze and spread in a thin coat.
  3. Wipe off, then follow with a wax or a sealant to lock in the shine.

Apply a dressing on plastics and rubbers

  1. Degrease and dry the part to be treated.
  2. Use an applicator dedicated to this use, never the one reserved for the bodywork.
  3. Spread the dressing over small areas, then level it out to avoid glossy buildup.

Good to know

  • Dedicate one applicator per product family in order to avoid any cross-contamination.
  • Machine-wash the pad with a special microfiber detergent between two uses.
  • Store it clean and dry, away from dust.
  • An applicator that has fallen on the ground must be washed before going back onto the paint.
