What is the difference between HydroShield and a classic tire shine?

A traditional tire shine leaves an oily film that shines a lot, but retains dust, whereas HydroShield forms a ceramic layer that is dry to the touch, with a matte finish. The result is darker and more discreet, with a strong hydrophobic effect and UV resistance.

Does HydroShield replace a plastic restorer?

No, HydroShield protects and darkens healthy plastic, but does not restore very oxidized plastic. On a heavily whitened part, a dedicated product such as the Blue Guard plastic restorer or the G6 Hyper Coat plastic restorer remains more suitable.

How long do you have to wait before exposing the car to rain?

Chemical Guys recommends letting it dry for 2 to 3 hours before exposing the vehicle to bad weather. Also allow a minimum of 3 hours before applying a non-ceramic product to the treated area.

Do you need to prepare the surface before applying HydroShield?

Yes, the surface must be clean and perfectly dry for the coating to adhere properly. Prior degreasing with the All Clean degreaser helps remove old tire shines and greasy residues that would prevent the product from bonding.

Instructions for use of the HydroShield Chemical Guys ceramic spray

HydroShield is used on a clean, dry surface. The main rule is to spray the product onto the microfiber, and not onto the part to be treated, then to work in small areas in order to keep control over the amount applied.

Preparation before application

Wash the vehicle or clean the area concerned to remove dust and greasy residues.
Strip old tire shines that could prevent the coating from adhering.
Dry the surface carefully: the product is not applied on a damp surface.
Protect or mask the neighboring areas that you do not wish to treat.

Application on plastics and tires

Clean and dry completely the surface to be treated.
Shake the bottle vigorously before use.
Spray HydroShield onto a clean microfiber towel.
Wipe the surface gently, covering the entire area.
Buff to remove excess product.
Repeat the operation if you wish to enhance the finish.

Drying time

Let dry 2 to 3 hours before exposing the vehicle to bad weather.
Wait at least 3 hours before applying a non-ceramic product on the treated area.
Park the vehicle under cover during this curing phase.

Good to know

Work in the shade and on a surface that is cool to the touch.
Use a microfiber dedicated to plastics and tires, never the one reserved for the bodywork.
On a very dirty tire, prior degreasing determines the coating’s durability.
Reserve the product for vinyl, rubber, and plastic.
