For very dirty rims, start by rinsing with a jet to remove the bulk of the dirt. Spray a rim cleaner suited to the type of finish (raw aluminum, chrome, painted). Let it work for 2 to 5 minutes without letting it dry. Use a rim brush with soft bristles to reach the corners and spokes. Rinse thoroughly. For embedded brake dust marks, a ferrous decontaminant (fallout remover), which turns purple on contact with iron, is very effective. Avoid acidic cleaners on polished or chrome rims. An acid cleaner (pH 1-3) is extremely effective against limescale and mineral deposits, but it can damage chrome, polished, or poorly protected rims. It must never be left on for more than 2 minutes and requires immediate rinsing. The pH-neutral cleaner (pH 6-8) is safe on all types of rims: painted aluminum, polished, chrome, satin. It is less aggressive, but sufficient for regular maintenance. For very dirty rims, a moderate pH cleaner (alkaline, pH 10-12) offers a good compromise. AGM Vision favors safe formulations, from pH-neutral to alkaline.

After cleaning, apply a wheel wax or a specific sealant that creates a protective barrier. This layer prevents brake dust from adhering and makes subsequent washes easier. Ceramic wheel coatings offer the best protection (6 to 12 months) and withstand the heat generated by braking (200 to 400°C). Apply to clean, dry wheels that are degreased with IPA. For routine maintenance, a quick detailer spray after each wash maintains the glossy appearance. AGM Vision offers high-temperature protections suitable for wheels.

Yes, special wheel brushes and detailing brushes are strongly recommended. A long, thin brush reaches the spokes and the inside of the wheels, areas that are inaccessible with a wash mitt. Brushes with soft synthetic bristles (nylon) clean without scratching. Some brushes have a conical tip for lug nuts and bolt holes. A detailing brush with short bristles is useful for corners and logos. Avoid metal brushes, which scratch the wheels deeply. Ideally, the rims should be cleaned at each wash of the vehicle, i.e. every 2 to 3 weeks. Brake dust is corrosive and attacks the finish if it stays too long. In sporty or urban driving (frequent braking), clean more often. A quick rinse with a hose each week, even without cleaner, helps to dislodge particles before they become embedded.
