Chemical Guys polishing pad cleaner: restore bite to your pads

Chemical Guys Polishing Pad Cleaner is a citrus-based cleaner designed for maintaining polishing pads. It is intended for detailers and individuals who work with an orbital or rotary polisher and who want to keep pads performing, session after session.

What the formula removes

The citrus formula dissolves deposits that build up in the foam or fibers as you work:

  • used polish and abrasives
  • paint residue pulled from the clear coat
  • glaze, wax, and sealant

By removing these deposits, the cleaner prevents the product from drying inside the pad and forming a crust that stiffens the working face.

Compatible with foam, microfiber, and wool

The cleaner can be used equally on foam, microfiber, and wool pads. It is therefore suitable both for a foam finishing pad and for a wool correction pad, without having to multiply maintenance products in the workshop.

Why maintain your pads

A pad saturated with dried polish loses its bite: it heats up more, slides on the clear coat, and releases worn abrasive, which can mark the paint. Cleaning the pad after each session helps restore a supple and even working face, and maintain the same cutting behavior from one job to the next. It is also a direct cost-saving item, since a set of properly maintained pads needs to be replaced much less often.

Format and machine compatibility

The product is supplied in a 473 ml bottle. It is used by hand, but it is also compatible with pad cleaning machines, which makes it possible to integrate it into a professional polishing station. For pad lubrication during the pass, it is complemented with the Pad Conditioner Chemical Guys.

Instructions for use of the Chemical Guys Polishing Pad Cleaner

Cleaning is done at two times: quickly during the session, to unclog the pad between two panels, then thoroughly once the job is finished. Here is how to proceed in each case.

Complete hand cleaning

  1. Remove the excess polish from the pad with a pad brush or a dry microfiber.
  2. Spray the cleaner over the entire working face of the pad.
  3. Massage the foam or fibers with your fingertips to work the product in.
  4. Rinse with lukewarm water until the water runs clear.
  5. Wring out without twisting, then let air-dry, working face up.

Cleaning during polishing

  1. Stop the machine and spray a small amount of product onto the pad.
  2. Brush the surface to loosen the loaded polish.
  3. Blot with a clean microfiber, then resume work.

Precautions

Reserve the product for polishing pads and not for painted surfaces. Let the pad dry completely before remounting it on the backing plate: a pad that is still damp comes off more easily. The manufacturer indicates, under California State Proposition 65, the presence of formaldehyde in the formula: wear gloves, avoid prolonged contact with skin, and keep the bottle out of reach of children.
