Chemical Guys Light-Grade Blue Clay Bar: paint smooth to the touch
The Chemical Guys light-grade blue clay bar is a 100 g decontamination clay intended for regularly maintained bodywork. It removes embedded contaminants that shampoo does not remove and restores a perfectly smooth feel to the paint before applying a protection.
What the light grade removes
Chemical Guys positions this blue clay at low levels of contamination. It is designed to remove:
- pollution embedded in the clear coat
- industrial fallout
- rail dust
- brake dust
- paint overspray residue
A light grade that preserves the clear coat
The light grade is the least abrasive in the Chemical Guys range. It is suitable for vehicles decontaminated at least once a year and for paints you want to treat gently, where a more aggressive clay would unnecessarily work the clear coat. On a heavily contaminated bodywork, the yellow medium-light grade clay or the gray medium grade clay are more suitable.
Compatible surfaces
The clay is used on paint, transparent plastics, glass, and polished metals. It is never used dry: a lubricant is essential so that it glides without catching or marking the surface.
The plastic bag test
To find out whether your bodywork needs decontamination, run your hand, slipped into a thin plastic bag, over the clean, dry paint. If you feel bumps or a rough grain, contaminants are embedded in the clear coat and using the clay is justified.
When to use it
Mechanical decontamination takes place after washing and drying, before polishing or applying a wax. Decontaminated paint grips protections better and keeps its shine longer.
Instructions for use of the Chemical Guys light-grade blue clay bar
The blue clay bar is always used on a clean bodywork that is abundantly lubricated. Chemical Guys recommends working in small areas, moving down from the roof to the rocker panels.
Prepare the vehicle
- Wash the vehicle starting with the roof in order to remove non-adhering dirt.
- Rinse, then dry the bodywork.
- Detach about one third of the bar and flatten it in the palm to form a patty.
Decontaminate panel by panel
- Spray generously the Clay Luber lubricant on an area of about 60 cm x 60 cm.
- Slide the patty back and forth over the lubricated area, without pressing, until it glides freely.
- Wipe the treated area with a clean microfiber.
- Inspect the clay: if it is dirty, fold it to expose a clean side before moving on to the next area.
Check the result
Run your hand in a thin plastic bag over the wiped area. The surface must be perfectly smooth: if any roughness remains, re-lubricate and make a second pass over the area concerned.
Precautions
Never use the clay dry: without lubricant, it catches and can mar the clear coat. If the bar falls on the ground or becomes completely dirty, throw away that piece and continue with a new portion. Once the bodywork is decontaminated, apply a wax or a sealant to protect the exposed paint.
