What is the difference between a cleansing wax and a polish?

A polish corrects the varnish by abrasion, but leaves no protection, whereas a cleaning wax cleans and protects in the same operation. The polish remains essential on pronounced scratches, while Slick Finish is enough to revive a simply dull paint.

Should you polish the bodywork before applying Slick Finish?

This is not necessary on a paint that only shows oxidation, stains, or light swirls: the cream takes care of it on its own. On deeper defects, prior polishing remains useful, and Slick Finish then serves as a protective finish.

Can this wax be used on black paint or single-coat paint?

How long should you let the wax sit before polishing?

Let the cream adhere to the surface for 15 minutes before removing it. Polishing is then done with a clean polishing microfiber, by hand, or after an application with the orbital polisher set to speed 4 at most.

The Slick Finish Cleaner Wax by Chemical Guys is a cream cleaner wax designed for dull or lightly marked bodywork. It combines micro-abrasives and natural Brazilian carnauba wax to clean the clear coat and protect it in a single operation, by hand or with a polisher.

Cleaning and protection in a single step

The very fine polishing particles in the formula remove oxidation, surface stains, and light swirls. In the same pass, the carnauba lays down a protective film that repels water, dirt, brake dust, and pollution. On paint that is not very damaged, the prior polishing step becomes unnecessary.

Compatible surfaces

For which bodywork

It is intended for colored paints that have lost their shine without showing deep scratches. On bodywork that has already been corrected, it serves as a finishing step and prepares for the application of a second coat. Between two applications, a Citrus Wash and Gloss shampoo is enough for routine maintenance.

Instructions for use of the Slick Finish Chemical Guys cleansing wax

Slick Finish cleansing wax is applied to a clean, dry, cool bodywork, sheltered from direct sunlight. A complete wash beforehand prevents dragging dirt under the applicator during spreading.

Hand application

Wash then dry the entire vehicle.
Pour a small amount of cream onto a foam or microfiber applicator.
Spread in a thin, even coat, panel by panel.
Let the wax bond to the surface for 15 minutes.
Buff with a clean buffing microfiber until you obtain a smooth finish.

Polisher application

Fit a clean finishing foam pad onto an orbital polisher.
Set the speed to 4 at most and work without applying pressure.
Spread the cream over the entire vehicle in a thin, even coat.
Observe the 15-minute setting time before removing the product.
Buff with a clean microfiber to reveal the shine.

Precautions

Always work on a cool surface and in the shade: on hot sheet metal, the cream dries too quickly and becomes difficult to remove. Change microfiber as soon as it becomes loaded with product, otherwise residues redeposit on the clear coat. The formula remains safe for clear coats and single-stage paints, but avoid any prolonged contact with unpainted plastics and rubber seals.

Good to know

A second coat enhances protection and depth of gloss, especially on dark shades. For a thicker finish, the 5050 Concours Paste Wax can be applied on top. Close the bottle carefully after use.
