Chemical Guys black chenille microfiber wash mitt: a scratch-free wash

The Chemical Guys black chenille microfiber wash mitt is a car wash mitt designed for manual cleaning of the bodywork. Its long chenille strands trap dirt deep within the weave and keep it away from the clear coat, where a smooth sponge makes it slide over the paint. It is aimed at motorists who wash their vehicle themselves and who want to limit micro-scratches.

A 70/30 microfiber designed for bodywork

Chemical Guys uses here a 70/30 microfiber blend, a soft composition that glides over the clear coat without attacking it. The chenille strands hold a large amount of water and foam, which maintains a lubricating film between the mitt and the paint throughout the wash.

What the mitt brings to washing

  • Deep dirt capture : particles remain trapped between the strands instead of being dragged over the bodywork.
  • Large foam reserve : the mitt stays loaded with shampoo from one panel to the next.
  • Double-stitched cuff : the mitt holds well in the hand and withstands repeated washes.
  • Easy maintenance : it goes in the washing machine and regains its original suppleness.

Which surfaces to use it on

The mitt is suitable for paint, glass, and exterior plastics, on a vehicle already rinsed and covered in foam. Reserve it for the bodywork: the dirtiest areas, such as wheel arches, rocker panels, and rims, require a dedicated accessory, otherwise you risk bringing sand and brake dust back onto panels that are already clean.

A consumable to keep an eye on

A wash mitt remains a wear item. As soon as the strands harden, remain loaded with residue, or the weave loosens, replace it: a tired mitt no longer retains dirt and becomes the primary cause of micro-scratches during washing.

Instructions for use of the black chenille microfiber wash mitt Chemical Guys

The result of a hand wash depends as much on the method as on the mitt itself. Here’s how to get the most out of the Chemical Guys chenille mitt and keep it for a long time.

Wash the bodywork

  1. Rinse the vehicle thoroughly to remove most of the dust and sand.
  2. Apply a car shampoo, for example Citrus Wash and Gloss, and let the foam work.
  3. Dip the mitt into the bucket of solution without wringing it out, then lay it flat on a panel, in straight lines, from top to bottom.
  4. Rinse the mitt in a second bucket of clean water after each panel to release the trapped dirt.
  5. Rinse the car, then dry it with a microfiber drying towel to avoid water spots.

Maintain the mitt after use

  1. Rinse the mitt with clean water until the water runs clear.
  2. Machine-wash it in hot water with Chemical Guys Microfiber Wash detergent.
  3. Tumble-dry it on low heat, then store it away from dust.

Precautions

Do not use fabric softener or dryer sheets: Chemical Guys specifies that they clog the microfibers and make them non-absorbent. Also avoid washing the mitt with linty laundry. If it falls on the ground during washing, set it aside and run it through the washing machine again before reusing it.
