Woolly Mammoth Chemical Guys drying towel: dry the entire car in one pass

The Woolly Mammoth drying towel from Chemical Guys is a large-format microfiber designed to absorb the water left on the bodywork after rinsing. With its 63 x 91 cm size and a thickness of about 2.5 cm, it dries an entire vehicle without multiplying passes, which appeals both to the careful motorist and the detailing professional.

Absorption that covers an entire car

The thick weave of the Woolly Mammoth holds nearly 3.8 liters of water, i.e. the equivalent of the gallon claimed by Chemical Guys. A single towel is therefore enough to dry a complete sedan, where several standard microfibers would be saturated before the end of the hood. The brand indicates that a single pass is most often enough, thanks to the thickness and density of the fiber pile.

Scratch-free drying

  • Satin edging on all four sides, without rigid stitching in contact with the clear coat
  • Long microfiber pile that traps residual dust instead of dragging it across the paint
  • Drying by blotting or by slow passes, without heavy rubbing

Compatible surfaces

Chemical Guys approves the Woolly Mammoth for paint and clear coat, but also for plastics, rubber, stainless steel, metal, and aluminum. It therefore finds its place on the bodywork as well as on window surrounds, wheels, or metal inserts.

To pair for optimal drying

Chemical Guys recommends combining the towel with its After Wash drying spray, which makes the microfiber glide easier and limits limescale marks. To have a second drying point on large flat surfaces, the XXL FullCarX drying towel usefully complements the equipment.

Instructions for use of the Woolly Mammoth drying towel

The Woolly Mammoth is used right after rinsing, on bodywork that is still dripping and perfectly clean. The principle is simple: let the microfiber absorb the water rather than pushing it, and never use it on a dusty or dry surface.

Drying the bodywork

  1. Rinse the vehicle thoroughly to remove any shampoo residue.
  2. Unfold the towel and lay it flat on the roof or hood.
  3. Pull it slowly toward you in one steady pass, without pressing.
  4. Fold it over to a dry side and continue panel by panel, from top to bottom.
  5. Finish with the rocker panels and door sills, the areas most loaded with dirt.

Drying detail areas

  1. Blot around the window surrounds and the mirrors with a corner of the towel.
  2. Open the doors and wipe the sills and seals, where water pools after rinsing.
  3. Set aside a separate microfiber for the wheels and wheel wells so you don’t bring anything back onto the clear coat.

Maintaining the microfiber

  1. Machine-wash the towel in hot water, separately from regular laundry.
  2. Use a dedicated detergent, such as Microfiber Wash, at a rate of about 30 ml for a small load and up to 90 ml for a large one.
  3. Tumble dry on low heat or air dry.

Precautions

  • No fabric softener or dryer sheet: they clog the fibers and cancel the absorbent power.
  • Never reuse a towel that has fallen on the ground before washing it again.
  • Work in the shade, on bodywork that isn’t scorching hot, to limit drying marks.
