Halogen bulb H2 – 55W for vintage vehicles

The H2 halogen bulb is used for the front headlights of certain vintage and collector vehicles. It operates on 12V with a power of 55W. It is a rare reference, mainly used on models from the 1970s-1990s, such as certain Citroën and Renault. Check the reference on your original bulb or in the maintenance booklet. Replacing an H2 is accessible to everyone. Access the rear of the headlamp from the engine compartment, disconnect the electrical connector, remove the cover and the fastening system (clip, ring or quarter-turn). Remove the used bulb and insert the new one without touching the quartz glass with your fingers. Reassemble in the reverse order. The operation takes about 10 to 20 minutes per side. Replace both bulbs simultaneously for uniform lighting.

Yes, the H2 xenon effect bulb is available with a bluish treated glass that produces a white light between 5000K and 6000K, similar to xenon lighting. It keeps the same base, the same power and remains ECE approved for the road. The rendering is more modern than the standard version at 3200K, yellow. The trade-off is a slight loss of brightness. A standard H2 bulb offers an average lifespan of 500 to 800 hours. The long-life versions reach 1200 to 1500 hours thanks to a reinforced filament. The high-performance versions (+100 %, +130 %) generally last less long (300 to 500 hours), because the filament is more heavily stressed. Lifespan also depends on vehicle vibrations and the quality of the electrical circuit. AGM Vision bulbs are tested to guarantee the stated lifespan.

The high power versions (80W, 100W) of the H2 exist, but are not approved for road use. They give off more heat and can damage polycarbonate optics as well as the connectors. As a legal alternative, +100% or +130% bulbs keep the original power while optimizing the filament and the gas in order to produce more lumens. This is the recommended solution to improve visibility in full legality. AGM Vision offers both options.

Standard H2 and xenon-effect bulbs bearing the ECE marking (the letter “E” followed by a number on the glass) are approved and pass the roadworthiness inspection without any problem. High-power versions (80W, 100W) as well as blue or purple tints are not approved and may result in a refusal. AGM Vision clearly indicates the approval on each product sheet. For road use, always choose a bulb with the ECE marking.
