H8 halogen bulb – 35W

The H8 halogen bulb is used for fog lights and certain daytime running lights (DRL). It operates at 12V with a power of 35W. It is found on many recent European vehicles, notably BMW, Mini, Peugeot and Citroën. Check the reference on your original bulb or in the maintenance booklet. Replacing an H8 is within everyone’s reach. Access the rear of the headlamp from the engine compartment, unplug the electrical connector, remove the cover and the fastening system. Take out the worn bulb and insert the new one without touching the quartz glass. Reassemble in the reverse order. The operation takes 10 to 20 minutes per side. Yes, the H8 xenon-effect bulb produces a white light between 5000K and 6000K thanks to a treated bluish glass. It keeps the same base, the same power and remains ECE approved. The rendering is more modern than the standard version at 3200K. The slight loss of brightness is compensated by better night-time visual comfort. A standard H8 lasts on average 500 to 800 hours. The long-life versions reach 1200 to 1500 hours. The high-performance versions (+100%, +130%) last 300 to 500 hours. The lifespan depends on the number of ignition cycles, vibrations, and circuit voltage. Driving on degraded roads reduces longevity. High-power versions exist, but are not approved for road use and may damage the headlight units. Choose +100% or +130% bulbs, which retain the original power while producing more lumens thanks to an optimized filament and gas. This is the best solution to improve visibility in complete legality. Standard H8 bulbs are designed for 12V (cars, motorcycles, light commercial vehicles). 24V versions exist for heavy goods vehicles and trucks, but they are separate references. Never install a 12V on 24V (immediate destruction), nor a 24V on 12V (very weak lighting). Check the rated voltage on the packaging.
