12V automotive relay to control your LED lighting

The relay, an essential component of the LED circuit

The 12V relay is an electromagnetic switch that makes it possible to control a high-power circuit (LED light bar, auxiliary spotlight) from a low-power switch in the cabin. Without a relay, all the current would pass through the switch, causing dangerous overheating. 30A models are suitable for LED light bars up to 360W, while 40A models make it possible to power more powerful or multiple installations.

Choosing between 4-pin and 5-pin relays

The 4-pin relay (normally open) is the most common for LED lighting: it closes the circuit when the switch is activated. The 5-pin relay offers an additional switching function (normally open and normally closed), useful for installations with switching between two circuits. Both types are mounted with a clip-on bracket and are connected with standard 6.3 mm terminals.
