D1S xenon bulb – Performance and longevity

The D1S bulb and its characteristics

The D1S xenon bulb is a model with a ballast integrated into the base (built-in ignition system), standardized by the ECE R99 standard. It operates at a voltage of 85 volts for a power of 35 watts. Its luminous flux reaches about 3 200 lumens, i.e. nearly three times the brightness of a standard halogen. The average lifespan of a quality D1S exceeds 2 000 hours of operation.

Choosing the right color temperature

The color temperature determines the tint of the lighting. 4 300 K corresponds to the original warm white, offering the best visual rendering and compliance with the technical inspection. 5 000 K produces a pure white, while 6 000 K tends toward bluish white. When replacing, always change the two bulbs simultaneously in order to ensure uniform lighting between the two headlights.
