Anti-limescale gel Water Spot Remover Chemical Guys: erase hard water spots
The Heavy Duty Water Spot Remover from Chemical Guys is an anti-limescale gel with a slightly acidic formula, designed to neutralize alkaline deposits and hard water spots on a vehicle. It is aimed both at the individual whose car is parked under an automatic sprinkler system or stays by the sea, and at the detailer who needs to restore marked paint before polishing or applying a protection.
Where water spots come from
A drop of water that dries on bodywork leaves behind the minerals it contained. As long as these minerals remain on the surface, a simple wash is enough. When they build up and chemically bond to the paint or glass, they form whitish rings that shampoo no longer removes and that then require mechanical polishing work.
Chemical action rather than mechanical
The gel works chemically. Its slightly acidic formula dissolves the bond between the mineral deposit and the surface, which makes it possible to remove the spot without abrading the clear coat. Its gel consistency keeps it in place on vertical surfaces, notably windows and quarter windows, where a spray would run before it has worked.
Compatible surfaces
- Body paint
- Glass and windshield
- Polished metals
- Stainless steel
- Aluminum
Surfaces not to treat
Chemical Guys advises against using this gel on mirrors, treated glass, coated metals, and surfaces protected by a ceramic coating. On a protected vehicle, it is therefore necessary to identify the nature of the protection before any application.
What the bottle contains
The 473 ml bottle is used with a microfiber applicator and a clean microfiber towel. Once the water spots are removed, the surface is ready to receive a maintenance shampoo such as Citrus Wash and Gloss, or a mechanical decontamination with the gray clay bar if contamination points remain to the touch.
Instructions for use of the Water Spot Remover Chemical Guys limescale gel
The Water Spot Remover is an acidic product that works fast and must be neutralized. The method is based on three principles: a cool surface, small areas, and systematic rinsing before moving on to the next panel. Wear nitrile gloves throughout the operation.
Preparation
- Wash and dry the vehicle to remove dust and dirt.
- Place the car in the shade and wait until the surfaces are cool to the touch.
- Shake the bottle well before use.
- Perform a test on an inconspicuous area to confirm compatibility with the surface.
Application on paint and windows
- Apply a small amount of gel to a microfiber applicator.
- Work an area of about 60 cm by 60 cm, in straight lines and without pressing.
- Never let the product sit on the surface for more than 30 seconds.
- Neutralize immediately by saturating the area with water or quick detailer.
- Wipe with a clean microfiber towel and check that no residue remains.
- Repeat, area by area, until the entire vehicle has been treated.
After the treatment
Limescale stripping also removes existing protection. Finish with a complete wash, then apply a wax or sealant again. An after-wash drying spray limits the reappearance of marks during subsequent washes.
Precautions
- Do not apply in direct sunlight or on a hot surface.
- Do not use on mirrors, glass and coated metals, or on a ceramic coating.
- Avoid heavy rubbing and prolonged contact times.
- The product contains formaldehyde, a mention reported by Chemical Guys under California Proposition 65.
