Abrasives for headlight restoration – sanding discs and sheets

Headlight restoration requires a progression of decreasing abrasive grits. Start with a P800 or P1000 grit to remove the thickest oxidized layer. Then move to P1500 to reduce scratches. Continue with P2000, then P2500 or P3000 to obtain an almost smooth surface. Each grit removes the scratches from the previous grit. Sanding is done with water (wet sanding) to prevent overheating of the polycarbonate. Allow about 3 to 5 minutes per grit and per headlight.
