LED headlights and additional work lights

LED headlights and additional work lights

Who has never driven at night with poor visibility? When we are in a car or on a motorcycle, it is crucial to have a clear and precise vision, so as not to miss any detail, even from afar. This is where additional headlights come in. They increase the lighting power of the vehicle and properly illuminate the road and the shoulders, allowing us to better anticipate all risks. The additional lights can be controlled by the vehicle's control system, thus preserving your driving habits, or by an additional switch according to your preferences.

Additional headlights: frequently asked questions

The specificities of additional LED headlights

There are many models of compact square additional LED headlights for 4x4s, LED headlights 24 volts for trucks in large format... It is possible to equip any type of vehicle and provide it with improved lighting on any type of terrain or road.

With equivalent brightness to a classic incandescent bulb, an LED consumes about 7 times less energy. An additional LED headlight therefore greatly increases the lighting power of your vehicle, without reducing the lifespan of your battery. A detail that matters, especially on a motorcycle! The lighting of Long Range additional LED headlights acts like a powerful spotlight and allows you to target with incredible visibility a precise area at several hundreds of meters.

A white additional LED light allows you to better distinguish dangers at a great distance, compared to a Xenon light for example.

Why install an additional headlight on a car, SUV, 4x4, or truck?

The use of additional headlights has several advantages.

For trucks, it is important to have a clear view over a long distance. Due to the mass of the vehicle and its extended stopping distance, it is vital to anticipate the presence of danger as much as possible to react as early as possible. The light beam provided by Xenon headlights or LED bulbs then brings enhanced safety on the road. This product increases brightness (and the number of lumens) to act as a fog projector and offer a comfortable drive even in the dark. A particularly useful asset for delivery professionals, whose work requires driving at night. Indeed, standard truck or utility vehicle lights are often preferred by companies to lower the purchase price, but the safety and comfort of long journeys should not have a price.

The additional headlights for SUVs and cars have essentially the same purpose: to give the driver the ability to see everything happening in front of them. In this case, braking distances are shorter, but situations are much more varied. While trucks generally drive on highways, cars and motorcycles often find themselves on narrow and winding roads, where lighting power can make all the difference between an accident and a safe passage.

In the case of a pick-up, 4x4, or truck, the additional light brings, in addition to the gain in visibility in the dark, a fog light functionality. Being spotted more easily by other vehicles reduces the risk of collision, especially in the city.

What type of additional headlight to choose?

Between LEDs, halogen, Xenon headlights, or HID (High Pressure Discharge), it is easy to get lost when choosing the type of additional headlight that suits us best. Let's look here at the main differences between them to help you make the most suitable choice for your vehicle.

LED lighting (Light Emitting Diode) works without a bulb, which gives it a much longer lifespan and longevity. LEDs have high efficiency and great intensity (which translates to more lumens per watt). They consume less energy and are available in different "light temperatures" that allow you to choose the shade of the light beam.

Halogen is the big sister of the classic incandescent bulb. Halogen devices are often displayed at a fairly low price, which unfortunately goes hand in hand with lower intensity, and therefore much lower energy performance than their competitors.

HID (High Density Discharge) and Xenon are actually the same thing. Xenon is the common name given to HID. It requires a bulb, a ballast, and a starter to operate. The light it produces is often perceived as very white and brings an aesthetic appeal to many vehicles. Its energy performance is between LED lighting and halogen.

Are additional headlights legal?

Beyond practical and aesthetic aspects, one may wonder whether the addition of LED headlights or Xenon is legally allowed. The answer is yes, but there are a few tips to know. If the product you receive was purchased with low stock on Amazon and its delivery comes from China at a very attractive price, it may sometimes not comply with the imposed standards. You should then look for an "E" logo on the glass of an LED among those in the kit to be sure that it is approved by the European Commission.

Also check that the products are sufficiently starred, as this is often a sign of quality although it is not always true. We recommend choosing for your additional headlight a chrome color to improve the overall aesthetics of your vehicle. Some different color choices may be more interesting than the chrome color, sometimes considered too flashy.

There are also specificities for each type of vehicle: whether you own a car, SUV, pick-up, truck, quad, or even a tractor, it is important to check that the power ratings indicated on your product's packaging correspond not only to the technical capabilities of your vehicle, but also to the limits allowed in the country in which you drive.

It is essential that additional headlights with a fog light feature have enough lumens to fulfill their function. However, this should not come at the cost of a spotlight on a poorly placed spot that could direct the light beam in an unusual way. The driver's safety is paramount and also includes that of other users who could easily be dazzled in the dark.

What is the difference between additional lights and an LED bar?

Whether round or square, additional lights have a definite advantage over the LED bar: the possibility of fine and more directional adjustment. An LED bar has greater power, but due to its installation constraints and sometimes the use of specific screws, as well as the straight design of its beam, it can be more difficult to fit on your vehicle.

It will be easier to integrate a small-sized additional headlight on your quad, motorcycle, car, or SUV. You can direct the light beam more outward and thus obtain a clearer and wider field of vision to miss nothing. If space is less of an issue for a tractor or truck, size differences are often impacted by the lack of flexibility of an LED bar, which is a product whose relevance remains occasional. In addition to having the fog light properties of the Xenon headlight, it is the available flexibility of this type of LED lighting that makes it an effective and adaptable spotlight for all vehicles.

The 4x4 additional LED headlights are also smaller and more discreet, so as not to break the curves and natural design of your vehicle. They are often associated with chrome-colored products in advertisements for exemplary design, although this is not free. The extra lumens improve your visibility at night as well as during the day by providing powerful but soft light so as not to blind other road users.
