A complete automotive LED lighting installation requires several components, in addition to the headlight or LED bar. At a minimum, you need a power relay (30A or 40A depending on consumption), a protective fuse sized to the circuit, a wiring harness with switch, and a cable with a suitable cross-section (1.5 or 2.5 mm²). Depending on the vehicle, an anti-error module or a voltage regulator may also be essential. At AGM Vision, all these accessories are available individually or in a ready-to-install kit.

The choice depends on the voltage of your vehicle’s electrical circuit. Cars, 4x4s and motorhomes operate on 12 volts: you need a 12V relay. Trucks, heavy goods vehicles and construction machinery use a 24-volt system: a 24V relay is then required. Using a relay with an incorrect voltage can damage the electrical circuit or prevent the LED lighting from working. Check your battery voltage before ordering. An error-cancelling module (or canbus module) eliminates the error messages that appear on the dashboard when replacing halogen bulbs with LEDs. Recent vehicles detect the low power consumption of LEDs and report a faulty bulb. The module simulates the resistance of a standard bulb so that the onboard computer does not detect any anomaly. It also eliminates the fast flashing (hyperflash) of LED turn signals. This component is particularly recommended for European vehicles equipped with onboard diagnostic systems.

The fuse rating must correspond to the maximum current of the circuit. To calculate it, divide the power in watts of your lighting by the voltage (12V or 24V). For example, a 180-watt 12V LED light bar draws 15 amps: a 20A fuse will be suitable. Always add a 20 to 30% margin above the actual consumption in order to avoid nuisance tripping. For a clean and reliable installation, plan for a standard set of wrenches and screwdrivers, a crimping tool for electrical terminals, a multimeter to check voltages and continuity, as well as plastic trim removal tools so as not to scratch the interior panels. A soldering iron and heat-shrink tubing allow for watertight and durable connections. To drill the mounting brackets, a drill with metal drill bits is necessary.
