Conversely, the fog light produces a wide, low beam, designed to illuminate the road at short range without causing glare or reflection in fog, rain, or snow. Some additional LED lights offer a "combo" beam that combines both types of lighting in order to provide maximum versatility. The choice therefore depends on your main use: long-range for wide open spaces and speed, fog for difficult weather conditions, or combo for complete and adaptable lighting.

To choose your additional LED spotlight properly, several technical criteria must be taken into account. Lumen output (lm) indicates the total amount of light emitted: the higher the number, the more intense the lighting. For regular road use, 2 000 to 5 000 lumens are sufficient, while off-road use or extreme conditions require 5 000 lumens and more. Power in watts (W) reflects electrical consumption: LED technology offers an excellent lumens/watts ratio. Also check the color temperature (expressed in Kelvin): a pure white around 6000K offers the best visual comfort. Finally, the IP protection rating (IP67 or IP68) guarantees water and dust tightness, essential for outdoor use. Also remember to adapt the size and bulk of the spotlight to the available space on your vehicle.

Installing an additional LED spotlight is within reach of most DIYers, but it requires a minimum of rigor. Start by choosing the appropriate mounting location: bumper, roof rack, mounting bar, or hood, depending on the type of vehicle and the intended use. Securely fasten the spotlight using the supplied mounting kit (brackets, stainless steel screws). For the electrical wiring, it is recommended to use a relay and a fuse suited to the spotlight’s power, in order to protect the vehicle’s electrical circuit. Connect the spotlight to the battery via a dedicated switch, easily accessible from the driver’s seat. Once installed, remember to adjust the beam direction to avoid dazzling other road users. The flood beam (or diffused) projects a wide light at short and medium distance, perfect for maneuvers, night work, or driving in difficult weather conditions. The combo beam combines both technologies in the same headlight, offering both range and width for maximum versatility. For off-road and 4x4 use, the combo is often the best compromise. For purely long-distance road use, choose the spot. To light a work area or construction site, the flood is recommended.
