🔌 Low beam headlights: installation and precautions

1. Preparation before installation

  • Identify the height of the original light beam with the halogen bulbs, ideally at night or in the dark, so you can compare after installing the LEDs.
  • Only do this step if you are sure your headlights are already well adjusted. Otherwise, plan a visit to the mechanic after installation for a professional adjustment.

2. Removal of the original H7 halogen bulbs

  • Remove the two cover caps: one on the grille side, the other on the engine side.
  • Unplug the connector, making rocking movements if necessary.
  • Press the retaining clip while slightly shifting it to release the bulb.

Two types of LEDs are possible:

  • High performance LED with rear ventilation, for maximum power.
  • Compact GTS 1.1 LEDs, easier to install, precise light beam and 450% higher brightness than the original: AGM Vision GTS 1.1 Slim

⚠️ Very powerful models must be chosen carefully to avoid glare.

3. Installation according to the type of LED

H7 LED with rear ventilation for low beams:

  • Remove the metal ring from the LED (quarter turn).
  • Install it in the headlight (place a cloth in case of accidental drop).
  • Orient the locator tab upwards.
  • Insert the LED into the ring, lock with a quarter turn.
  • Orient the cable upwards or downwards (never at an angle).
  • Plug in the connector. If the LED does not light up, reverse the connection (polarity).

Compact H7 GTS 1.1 LEDs for low beams:

  • Install the LED directly like an original bulb.
  • Clip the retaining clip.
  • Plug in the connector (no specific direction).
  • Put back the two cover caps for sealing.

4. Beam adjustment

  • Test the lighting at night. If the beam is too high, adjust the position of the LED or use the adjustment dial in the cabin.
  • For optimal results, have an adjustment done in a garage with a headlight alignment device.

🔍 Common problem: connecting H1 LEDs on Clio 4

Some users have difficulty connecting their H1 LEDs. Don't panic, we explain how to do it and especially how to choose your LEDs correctly.

💡 Key tip: opt for 360° LEDs

For high beams, it is essential to choose powerful LEDs, with a 360° beam, and precise focus. This ensures efficient lighting without modifying the headlight optics.

⚠️ Why avoid standard LEDs?

  • The H1 bulb is positioned sideways in the headlight unit.
  • A standard LED does not direct the light correctly.
  • Result: incomplete beam, reduced range, uneven lighting.

✅ With a well-designed LED, you get powerful, well-distributed light that complies with the highway code, without tinkering or modification.

1. Removal of the original H1 halogen bulbs

  • Remove the headlight cover that is next to the car's fender.
  • Remove the connector and the clip (press/shift and lift).
  • Remove the original bulb.

2. Installation of H1 LEDs for high beam

  • Remove the metal ring from the LED by pulling upwards.
  • Install the previously removed metal ring in the headlight (use a cloth to prevent it from falling).
  • Reattach the clip to hold the ring.
  • Do not put the LED back into the ring right away: first make the connection.

3. Specific connection for Clio 4

How to correctly connect the ground of the LED?

LED bulbs have two wires (positive and ground), but the Clio 4 only has one visible connector, which can be confusing. Most often, the ground wire (–) is hard to spot because it is hidden in the headlight.

  • 🔌 Black wire (–) of the LED: connect it to the female connector located at the back of the headlight (note, the wire is sometimes white or brown). Use a flat screwdriver to extract it. It is about 1 cm around the original H1 bulb location.
  • 🔴 Red wire (+) of the LED: connect it to the original female connector, the one used by the H1 halogen bulb.

👉 Once both wires are connected, you can insert the LED into its housing.

4. Waterproof cover to plan for

  • The original cover often no longer closes after installing LEDs in the high beams. No worries: AGM Vision provides deeper covers (included in this pack Clio 4 High Beam LED Pack): same diameter as the original, to ensure sealing.

❌ Mistakes to avoid

  • Installing LEDs without adjusting the headlights: risk of dazzling other drivers.
  • Reversed polarity: if the LED does not light up, reverse the connection.
  • Incorrect orientation: misdirected beam = reduced visibility.
  • No waterproof cover: moisture can cause failures.
  • Poor choice of LEDs for high beams.
