Choosing an h4 LED bulb: which technology?

Choosing an h4 bulb LED should not be done at random. When we talk about LED, two technologies are mainly identified: first-generation COB (Chip on board) and CSP (Chip Scale Package).

The COB LED chip technology

COB is present most of the time on low-end h4 LEDs. It is an old generation LED technology, inexpensive, with the advantage of being reliable. The light beam produced is non-compliant, and you will be required to remove your LEDs before each technical inspection under penalty of refusal.

The CSP LED chip technology

The CSP technology (Chip Scale Package) features small LED chips placed on a very high-quality PCB board. This technology is currently the best. It offers a higher luminous flux as well as better management of internal heat, which allows for much higher efficiency given its small size (compared to a COB or even SMD chip).

CSP chips offer unmatched lighting precision, which will guarantee you a successful technical inspection and a long lifespan.

CSP is a constantly evolving technology, especially with the arrival of the brand new GaN High Power chip. The different cooling modes of an H4 LED bulb

The h4 LED bulb has different heat dissipation modes depending on your vehicle's configuration and the space you have:

• Passive cooling. The heat is extracted directly by the body of the LED and its aluminum fins. The advantage of this type of cooling is above all its reliability, with no risk of mechanical failure.
• Active cooling. Here, the heat is extracted by a fan and allows for higher lighting power.
