Black Chemical Guys microfiber: the microfiber for dirty areas

The black Chemical Guys microfiber is the towel reserved for dirty jobs: engine bay, exterior plastics, tires and wheel wells. Its dark color hides grease and dressing residue, which makes it possible to keep it for these tasks without ever bringing it back onto a clean bodywork.

Why a black microfiber for the engine

An engine bay concentrates oil, road dust and degreasing products. A light-colored microfiber quickly becomes unusable there, whereas a black microfiber keeps a clean look while isolating this dirt from the rest of your equipment. You thus avoid cross-contamination, the main cause of micro-scratches when passing over paint.

A soft and absorbent 70/30 weave

Chemical Guys uses a 70/30 blend of polyester and polyamide on its Workhorse range. This weave remains supple after many wash and dry cycles and does not snag sensitive surfaces.

  • Square format of 40 x 40 cm, foldable into four to multiply clean sides
  • Fibers that trap liquids as well as solid particles instead of letting them slide
  • Reusable material and machine washable

The Workhorse color code

Chemical Guys assigns a color to each family of tasks in order to avoid mixing. Black is reserved for plastics, rubbers and trim elements, as well as the engine bay and tires. Blue is intended for windows and yellow for the cabin.

On which surfaces to use it

  • Engine bay and engine cover
  • Exterior plastics and rubbers, seals and wheel wells
  • Tire sidewalls after applying a dressing
  • Side skirts and low areas of the vehicle

Instructions for use of the black microfiber for engine and plastics Chemical Guys

This microfiber is used dry or slightly damp, depending on the product used. The principle remains the same: work in small areas, fold the towel as soon as one side is loaded, and never run it over a clean painted surface.

Cleaning the engine bay

  1. Work on a cold engine and protect sensitive connectors.
  2. Spray your degreaser on plastics and covers, then let it act for a few moments.
  3. Agitate if necessary with a brush, then rinse sparingly.
  4. Wipe with the black microfiber, folded in four, changing sides as soon as it becomes loaded.
  5. Go over areas that are still damp to avoid drying marks.

Applying a dressing to tires and plastics

  1. First clean and dry the tire sidewall or the plastic part.
  2. Apply the dressing with a dedicated applicator.
  3. Wait a few minutes, then remove the excess with the black microfiber.
  4. Then reserve this towel for this use, as dressing residues are difficult to remove in the wash.

Washing and care

  1. Machine-wash the microfiber, in hot water, with a microfiber-specific detergent.
  2. Never use fabric softener: it clogs the fibers and removes absorbency.
  3. Tumble dry on low heat or air dry.
  4. Wash engine microfibers separately from those used on the bodywork.

Precautions

Check for the absence of small stones or hard residue before each pass. A microfiber that has been used on the engine, wheels, or tires must never return to the paint, even after careful washing.
