Rally & competition LED light bars – high-performance lighting

A rally LED light bar is a lighting ramp designed specifically for motor racing and extreme off-road. It stands out for its superior light output (up to 37 440 lumens), a reinforced housing against vibrations and impacts, as well as waterproof connectors of military quality. The beams are optimized for long range, with 4D or 5D optical lenses that concentrate the light beyond 500 meters. These bars are designed to operate in extreme conditions of temperature, dust, and humidity.

The choice depends on the type of competition and the driving speed. For night raids and special stages at high speed, choose the most powerful models (200 to 345W, i.e. 20 000 to 37 440 lumens) that light beyond 500 meters. For technical off-roading at low speed, a 60 to 150W bar (5 000 to 15 000 lumens) in a combo beam is sufficient. Always check the capacity of your alternator and plan a dedicated electrical circuit, with a relay and a fuse of the appropriate rating.

Yes, rally LED light bars are designed to withstand the harshest conditions. The die-cast aluminum housing absorbs shocks and vibrations thanks to internal damping seals. Solid-state LEDs have no filament, unlike halogens, which makes them insensitive to repeated vibrations. The IP68 rating guarantees total waterproofing, even during ford crossings. The connectors are often Deutsch type, used in the military and aerospace industry for their reliability.

The majority of rally LED light bars are not approved for use on public roads in France. Their extreme light output can dazzle other road users. They must be switched off and, ideally, covered with a protective cover when driving on the road. Their use is fully permitted in competition, on private roads and off-road. Some models have an ECE marking which may allow road use under specific conditions.

Mounting on a competition vehicle requires robust fasteners. The bars are mounted on a roll cage, a roof plate or a reinforced bumper mount. Use silent blocks to dampen vibrations and prevent microcracks. The wiring must be sized for the power: cable with a cross-section of 4 to 6 mm², relay of at least 40A and a suitable fuse. A switch accessible to the co-driver allows quick activation. Remember to adjust the beam angle before each race to optimize range.

The most commonly used color temperature in night competition is 6000K, which produces a slightly cool white light, close to daylight. This shade offers excellent contrast and makes it possible to clearly distinguish the terrain’s contours, rocks, and ruts. Temperatures above 6500K tend toward blue and can tire the eyes over long distances. Warmer shades (4300K) penetrate fog and dust better, but offer fewer details at long range.
