The choice depends on the desired effect. RGB LED strips for floor mats are the easiest to install (cigarette-lighter connection) and provide colored lighting at foot level. Optical fiber creates a fine, continuous finish along the door panels and the dashboard, premium-vehicle style. A well-adjusted ambient lighting does not interfere with driving. The key is to use a low to moderate intensity and soft colors (dark blue, purple, dark red). Kits with a dimmer allow you to adjust the intensity according to conditions. Avoid bright colors (white, neon green) and flashing modes while driving. Premium manufacturers like Mercedes and BMW also include ambient lighting as standard, proving that it is compatible with safe driving when the intensity is properly calibrated.

The installation of a starry sky kit requires removing the vehicle’s headliner using suitable removal tools. Then, drill small holes (1 to 2 mm) in the fabric in order to insert each fiber optic strand. The LED generator is placed in the trunk or behind the dome light. Glue the headliner back on, then cut the fibers flush with the fabric for a clean finish. Allow 3 to 5 hours of work depending on the number of strands (100 to 500). Optical fiber is a thin thread (1 to 3 mm) that diffuses a continuous and uniform light along its entire length, with no visible points. Yes, kits equipped with a Bluetooth controller can be controlled from a dedicated smartphone app (iOS and Android). The app offers advanced features: color selection on a color wheel, creation of custom palettes, brightness adjustment, selection of animation modes, and music synchronization with adjustable sensitivity. The consumption of an interior LED kit is very low: between 5W and 15W, depending on the number of light points. By way of comparison, a halogen headlight consumes 55W. The risk of the battery discharging is therefore minimal, with the engine running. However, if you leave the lighting on with the engine off for several hours, the battery may discharge. The recommended solution is to connect the kit to the ACC circuit (cut-off when the key is removed) or to use a kit with a built-in timer that turns off automatically.
